HANDSHAKE DEAL is a prayer to the wind I wrote while evacuated during California wildfires in August 2020. We were hiding backstage of a theater where AC was protecting the lungs of our then five months old son from the terrible smoke outside. Listening to firefighter airplanes around the nearby airport, I felt vulnerable and with not much left to do but a little prayer. With our son asleep in a carrier on my back, I sat by a piano and wrote this humble tune. I waited for years for this tune to mature into a larger song, but she never did. She always wanted to remain a simple prayer as it was written then and so I recorded her so.
